Cooperative Decentralized Economics

What If We Built Platforms Owned by the People Who Use Them?

There's a quiet revolution happening in how we think about ownership, community, and the economy.

It's called cooperative decentralized economics — and it's exactly what it sounds like.

A system where the people who use a platform own it. Where decisions are made democratically. Where profits stay in the community.

This isn't just theory. It's already happening.

What's Wrong With the Current System?

Today's digital economy is built on extraction:

The people who do the work — drivers, sellers, users — get a fraction of the value. The profits go to shareholders. The decisions are made by a few people in a boardroom.

This is what I'm building MegaFish to escape.

What Does Cooperative Decentralized Economics Look Like?

Imagine a different world:

That's cooperative decentralized economics.

It's a system where ownership and control are distributed among the people who participate — not concentrated in the hands of a few.

The Key Components

1. Democratic Ownership

Unlike traditional corporate platforms where profits go to outside shareholders, in a decentralized cooperative, the people who use, work on, or depend on the platform own it. Decisions are made democratically by the members — one person, one vote.

2. Transparency

Blockchain technology allows for a transparent and immutable record of all transactions and governance decisions. You can see exactly how the platform operates — no hidden fees, no secret algorithms.

3. Elimination of Intermediaries

Instead of paying a giant corporation to connect you with someone, the platform itself is the connector. No middleman extracting value. Just people helping people.

4. Community Value over Profit

The focus is on generating "social value" — benefits that improve community well-being, strengthen social bonds, and promote fairness — rather than just maximizing profit.

How This Is Being Built Right Now

This isn't just a dream. There are already organizations building this future:

Model What It Is
Platform Cooperatives Digital platforms owned by the people who depend on them — workers, users, or both
DAOs Decentralized Autonomous Organizations — run by code and smart contracts with decisions made by token holders
DisCOs Distributed Cooperative Organizations — blending cooperative values with feminist economics and care work
InterCooperative Networks Peer-to-peer coordination infrastructure for cooperatives to manage identity, governance, and value exchange

What This Means for MegaFish

I built MegaFish because I saw what was broken with dating apps:

Cooperative decentralized economics is the antidote.

Imagine a dating platform where:

That's the long-term vision for MegaFish. Free forever. Owned by the community.

What You Can Do

  1. Support cooperative platforms — choose platforms owned by their users
  2. Start a cooperative — you don't need permission to build your own
  3. Spread the word — the more people know, the faster it grows
  4. Build local — start in your community, then scale

This Is What I'm Building

MegaFish is my small contribution to this movement:

All from a bedroom in 32218 on a 4GB laptop.

🐟 Ready to build your own cooperative platform? I build dating sites, blogs, and web apps — Flask, SQLite, Ubuntu, Cloudflare. Starting at $500.
