🔥 REDDIT RATE LIMITED ME

— The Irony of Being "Too New"

💀 The Message That Made Me Laugh

I just got to Reddit.

I posted one link — my Substack note about getting banned from Facebook and Bluesky.

And Reddit said:

"Rate limit exceeded. Wait 500 seconds."

500 seconds.

That's 8 minutes and 20 seconds of being told to slow down.

By a platform that's supposed to be the "front page of the internet."

🔥 The Irony Is Thick Enough to Cut With a Knife

Platform What They Did Why
Facebook Banned me "Fraud and deception"
Bluesky Suspended me "Terms of Service violation"
Reddit Rate limited me "You're too new"

Notice the pattern?

Platforms don't want new voices.

They want established voices who follow the rules.

They don't want builders. They want consumers.

🧠 The Real Reason

I got rate limited not because I broke any rules.

I got rate limited because:

  • I'm new
  • I posted a link
  • I'm building in public
  • I'm not following the "slow and steady" path they expect

Reddit's algorithm doesn't know I'm a builder.

It just knows I'm new.

And it assumes new = suspicious.

🎯 What I Learned

Lesson Why It Matters
Platforms are designed to slow you down They don't want you to grow too fast
New voices are suspicious You have to earn trust, even when you're legit
Building in public is hard The gatekeepers are everywhere
Reddit is different It's not a ban, just a speed bump

💬 Grandaddy Presnell Would Say

"I walked into this bar and they said we're gonna make you wait 500 seconds, and I said why, and they said you're new here, and I said I've been new before, and they said who are you, and I said Jim, and they said hey everybody Jim's here, and the crowd went wild, and I still had to wait 500 seconds."

🔥 The MegaFish Solution

This is exactly why I built MegaFish.

Platform Problem MegaFish Solution
Facebook They ban you No bans, just real people
Bluesky They suspend you No suspensions, just real connections
Reddit They rate limit you No rate limits, just real conversations
Twitter/X They'll ban you eventually No billionaires, just real connections

MegaFish doesn't have rate limits.

MegaFish doesn't have spam filters.

MegaFish doesn't have billionaires.

MegaFish is just real people looking for real connections — on their own terms.

🎯 Final Word

Facebook banned me.

Bluesky suspended me.

Reddit rate limited me.

And I'm still here. Still building. Still writing. Still reaching 33 countries.

Because you can't stop a voice that refuses to be silent.

They can ban your accounts.

They can suspend your profiles.

They can rate limit your posts.

But they can't stop you from building your own.

This is the fifth post in the "What Facebook Banned Me For" series.

"My mind is a glow with whirling transient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapor of invention — and apparently that's too much for rate limits to handle."
